Located in the southern Caribbean, just north of Trinidad and Venezuela, the small nation state of Grenada is made up of three islands: Grenada, Carricou and Petite Martinique. Grenada is the largest of the three, occupying 133 square miles consisting of mountainous, volcanic terrain, reaching heights of over 2,750 feet atop Mount St. Catherine.

Renowned as the “ Isle of Spice” because of the nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, ginger and other spices: in fact, there are more spices in Grenada per square mile than anywhere else on the planet. It is, however, the warmth of the climate and the people, the lush green rainforests and true blue skies and bays that make it the “Spice of Life”, The heritage, culture, arts, horticulture, cuisine and adventure activities only add to the overall feeling.

Grenada has much to offer, from the two mile white sands of Grand Anse in the south to Bathway Beach in the north. The Grenadian calendar is rich with a variety of activities and festivals that cater to different tastes, from the La Source sailing festival in January to Carnival in August.

With its African origins, Calypso is the music of the native Grenadian. Though the mini-buses now play reggae and pop, it is still the music of choice at Carnival time. Ex-tempore is an art form where the musician sings to a standard tune but has impromptu lyrics.

Although devastated by Hurricane Ivan in September 2004, the Grenadian people are endeavouring to build the country back even better for themselves and their visitors.
